Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL) has announced a significant oil discovery at the Shawal-1 Well, located in the Mari Development & Production Lease (Mari D&PL) in Sindh Province. MPCL, operating with 100% working interest, successfully drilled the well to a depth of 1,136 meters into the Ghazij Formation.
During testing, the Shawal-1 Well yielded 1,040 Barrels of ~30 deg API oil, along with 2.5 MMSCFD of associated gas. Mr. Faheem Haider, MD/CEO of MPCL, praised the efforts of the company’s geoscientists and engineers, emphasizing their use of new technologies. The company plans to further appraise this discovery to determine its extent and evaluate development options.
This achievement aligns with MPCL’s strategy to boost hydrocarbon production in Pakistan through a combination of maximizing current field output and exploring new resources. MPCL, known for operating Pakistan’s largest gas reservoir in Daharki, Sindh, holds a significant market share as the country’s second-largest gas producer.
